Strawberry Raspberry Popsicles

#Strawberry #Raspberry #Popsicles from alimentageuse.com. Perfect for a bright summer day! #vegan

Before I get into these AMAZING strawberry raspberry popsicles, I want to discuss my weight issues. People always ask me how I’m not a whale despite making and blogging all my food and desserts. I’m not “fat”, nor am I “skinny”; I’m just your average-sized-grad-student. (I’m using quotation marks because I think terms like “skinny” or “fat” are words that have too much cultural significance. People get offended so quickly and honestly, people are people. They come in different shapes and sizes. Their size doesn’t make me like or dislike them.) Anyway, Wiifit always depicts me as overweight because I weigh more than your average 5’5″ person, but I attribute that to my muscle mass. I don’t really exercise regularly, but I like to do yoga and zumba, play some volleyball, and go for the occasional swim. I wouldn’t say that I’m necessarily lazy, I just have a huge aversion for being sweaty (even though I like hot yoga more than any other yoga) and I have asthma that acts up in cold weather, hot weather, and when I exercise.

Vegan Chocolate Smoothie

Vegan Chocolate Smoothie

So basically this smoothie was to get rid of some leftover coconut milk and overripe bananas. Oh and to find an excuse to use these awesome paper straws! They’re super pretty but they kind of soak up the liquid a little at the top so the straw gets soggy in about 5 minutes. Luckily for me, this smoothie was so delicious it barely lasted 5 minutes so the straw wasn’t that hard to deal with. Now I know coconut milk is pretty high in fat, but I justified using it by treating my body to some fibre and vegan goodness! This smoothie would be great for the mornings, or even after dinner as a dessert, kind of like a milkshake. (Again, my past few posts have seemed sort of breakfast-themed)

Green Super Smoothies

Green Super Smoothies

I’m in the big city now! It’s so weird, I never thought I’d ever be moving to Toronto. I only ever knew Chinatown (I know, typical asian), and I never really liked the feel of the city. I grew to really love Ottawa and its small town feel despite it’s large size. I knew where to find great fresh produce and I knew what days had the student deals. I guess I’ll have to adjust and explore the tastes and new finds of Toronto, but I will probably need your help! Meanwhile, I’ll stick to what I know: Chinatown.

Peach Apricot Mango Iced Tea

Mango Apricot Iced Tea

Nothing like a nice glass of cold, lightly sweetened tea with summery fruits to make your day better. This week is RIDICULOUSLY hot. It feels like I’m back in Vietnam where we had iced sweet green tea every day to try and cool off. That and beer. But that’s a different story. In Ottawa, there’s this place in the Byward Market called The Tea Store, which obviously sells tea—really good tea—and I had some raspberry rooibos tea. It was DELICIOUS. Once it’s sweetened with a little bit of agave nectar, it’s perfect.
